About Bushey Community Cares

Bushey Community Cares is a programme run by the community, for the community, offering a confidential service of help and support in a practical and friendly manner. It is our objective to promote and encourage a sense of belonging and involvement so that individuals within our community feel cared for and valued and to encourage the ethos of a caring community.

Since its launch in February 1997, BCC has been instrumental in helping a large number of our community members and their families who required help, whether practical or emotional. This can mean anything from carrying out a simple DIY job to supporting someone who is struggling to come to terms with the loss of a loved one.

This has been achieved through a willing group of volunteers who give of their time freely, dealing at times with some very trying and difficult situations requiring delicate handling, but always ensuring total confidentiality is observed.

What We Do

We operate under four main help groups each led by an experienced and well-trained group leader. The groups are as follows:

Financial and Legal

Financial and Legal provide assistance with personal or business matters in relation to financial and legal problems. Also help with CV writing and preparation for job searching

Sick and Elderly

Sick and Elderly covers a number of areas that includes

    • Befriending service
    • Home and hospital visiting
    • General assistance
    • Simple DIY
    • Shopping
    • Transport arrangements

Or simply dropping in for a chat!

Bereavement

Bereavement offers a befriending scheme that provides assistance and support for the bereaved and their family. We also deal with other types of loss that people are finding it difficult to come to terms with.

Befriending

This group offers a specialist service for issues relating to relationship problems as well as individual counselling for adults and parenting skills.

How To Contact Us

Nobody should never be too proud to ask for help if it is needed and sometimes it is easier to ask for that help from someone outside of the family unit or circle of friends, if indeed it is available from them in the first place. Once asked for you can be absolutely reassured that your enquiry will be dealt with on a confidential basis.

Bushey Community Cares maintains a 24-hour contact line that is available all week.  If you or anyone you know needs help please call us on: 020 8950 3344 and you will receive a response from one of our volunteers within 48 hours maximum. Should the nature of the enquiry be beyond the scope or expertise of the programme or our volunteers, we have an extensive database of both Jewish and non-Jewish organisations to which we can refer members on to.

Would You Like To Be A Volunteer?

We are always seeking new volunteers, particularly daytime helpers. We continue to provide ongoing assistance to members who need taking to Shul clubs, need short term or ongoing help with shopping, taking to hospital appointments, want someone just to drop in for a chat etc. Do you have the following personal qualities?

    • To be non- judgmental
    • To be friendly and sensitive
    • To be caring and patient
    • To have good communication skills
    • To have a sense of humour
    • To understand the need for total confidentility
    • To be reliable

If you believe you do and can spare some time, however little, please leave your details on the contact line and we will get back to you.
