Inaugural Event: Special guest speaker Simon Hilderbrand.
Ohhhh Whisky Night!!
What a great night was had by all at the infamous inaugural meeting of Bushey Synagogue Whisky club, which hosted an awesome whisky tasting evening. Even as a non-whisky drinker I had a fabulous time and in addition to the huge array of whiskies there was an awesome collection of delicious wines for me to tickle my taste buds with.
Special thanks to Anne and Wayne Barnett for hosting more than 70 of us in their gorgeous home; they put on a beautiful spread of food and of course, not forgetting a big thank you to our very young BBQ chef, the fabulous Joe Slyper who was busy with his tongs turning the sausages like a pro at the grand age of almost 98!! Included are some great pictures taken by the talented Rocki so you can see how much everyone enjoyed the evening.
The guest speaker was Simon Hilderbrand who describes himself as an enthusiast rather than a connoisseur and explained that a good whisky is simply a whisky that you like, and is therefore totally subjective. His selection included:
- Lowlands whisky -Auchentoshen – American Oak
- Speyside – Cardhu Gold reserve
- Highlands- Tullibardine 225 – Sauternes cask
- Isles – Talisker Skye
- Welsh – Pendyryn Celt – Madeira Cask
Although I was busy enjoying the wine, great company and lovely food my husband made sure I tried all of the above and I have to say I really did enjoy the Speyside, so Simon definitely found something for every taste. The real enthusiasts had a further 15 single malt whisky’s for tasting or my husband’s case, checking and rechecking.
The evening was entirely free of charge but people were asked to make a donation and we raised almost £500 for the Shul G’Mach Fund, which is a truly fantastic amount for a great cause!
A great time was had by all and Uber did extremely well out of the evening as most people were not in a fit state to drive home!!
