Bushey United Synagogue commemorated Yom Hazikaron through a meaningful and reflective ceremony. Nearly 100 people attended the moving ceremony which included readings from our youth giving personal accounts of Israeli tragedies, both of fallen soldiers and victims of Terror. Lead by Hannah Sharron, Kate Ottman, Jack Ottman, Abi Lever and Sara Cash they eloquently delivered the moving stories.
We were also joined by Dan Ziv from the ZF who gave a personal account of his time in the Israeli Army, which bought a firsthand experience of life on the front line.
The Ceremony was completed by three videos showing media coverage of stories well known to the community including the story of Yoni Jesner whose death saved the life of a young Palestinian girl.
Before the Hatikvah Rabbi Richards explained the difficulties of moving from the sad Yom Hazikaron service to the Yom Ha’atzmaut Celebrations saying we need to remember those who have fallen but also to celebrate their lives.
The evening continued with an Israeli supper, music by Daniel Goldwater and Israeli Dancing which the whole community joined in with. An eventful, reflective and enjoyable evening was had by all.
