Green Sunday in Bushey
Thank you to everyone who was involved in Mitzvah Day this year!
Over 450 volunteers took part in 16 projects and supported many worthwhile charities mostly local to us but also in Eastern Europe, Africa and Israel. You will find pictures and a short video below which is a lovely reflection of all the activities which happened in the Shul on Sunday morning.
From the early hours, amidst a blaze of Green Mitzvah day T-shirts, both young and old set off in all directions with the aim of helping others and making a difference. This was the culmination of months of preparation. From knitting clothes for babies in orphanages, teams preparing the arts and crafts materials for the cards and gifts to be made and sent to different charities, the positive atmosphere amongst all the volunteers was clear.
Our volunteers could be seen at the JBD home in Bushey Heath, New Hope Trust and Peace Hospice in Watford, Mums the Word children’s clothing charity in Islington, Moriah Jewish Day School in Pinner, Bushey High Street, collecting food for JGift and in the Mitzvah Zone at Bushey Shul.
In the zone, activities included sandwich making for the local homeless shelter, making Christmas decorations for serving British soldiers, Chanukah cards for sick children through Camp Simcha, decorating bunting for Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice, and making loom band gifts for Shaare Zedek. Additionally donations for Kit Aid collecting for kits to be sent to Africa, stamps for Support Our Soldiers and food for Borehamwood Foodbank.
Everyone enjoyed themselves and there has been much appreciation from the organisations that were helped by such a splendid team of volunteers that gave up their time to help others.
