In spite of the rain over 100 people from our shul, other shuls, Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church & St Peter’s Anglican Church met in our synagogue on Wednesday night 3rd October 2012, which was Chol Hamoed Succoth.
It was an Inter-Faith function and we were treated to excellent explanations of the celebrations of Succoth by Rabbi Salasnik and of Harvest Festival by Father Jim McNicholas. These were followed by a visit to the Succah and then welcome refreshments and a l’chaim.
Rebecca Palmer of Watford New Hope Trust, a local charity for the homeless in Watford, which is supported by the Sacred Heart Church, gave a presentation on the work of the Trust. Following this there was a debate facilitated by Robert Shooter on how we might meet the challenge of poverty.
The evening was rounded up by a vote of thanks on behalf of our guests by Dr Jo Careras and concluded with a collection for New Hope Trust which raised over £200.
